FAQ

Easy ROR Pro™  Frequently Asked Questions

Q  How is Easy ROR Pro different from Easy ROR?  Easy ROR calculates Internal Rate of Return for portfolios or portfolio groups. Easy ROR Pro adds GIPS® Time-Weighted calculation methods, including Daily Valuation, Modified Dietz and Modified BAI, as well as GIPS® calculation of composite performance and dispersion for portfolio groups. Time-Weighted methods neutralize the effects of amounts invested, thus measuring the performance of the money manager rather than the investor (Easy ROR Pro can calculate either). Easy ROR Pro also adds Benchmarking, which allows you to select indexes or create blended indexes with which to compare portfolio performance. Easy ROR Pro automatically downloads your benchmark indexes from publicly available sources, and can compare them directly or as if you had invested funds in them exactly as you had in your portfolio. Easy ROR Pro also calculates Volatility, Beta, and other measures of Risk/Reward for your portfolio(s), and adds other features for professional use, like customized report headers, client information, etc. Easy ROR and Easy ROR Pro require identical data input.

Q  What is GIPS®?  Is Easy ROR Pro GIPS-compliant?  GIPS® (Global Investment Performance Standards) is the global standard for performance reporting administered by the CFA Institute (formerly the Association for Investment Management and Research ("AIMR")). GIPS is the updated standard replacing AIMR-PPS. If you're a professional, your prospective clients may expect you to be GIPS/AIMR-compliant, and calculations using GIPS methodology (provided by Easy ROR Pro) are required for such compliance. Software programs such as Easy ROR Pro cannot claim GIPS compliance, only firms with assets under management can. Easy ROR Pro can only help you claim GIPS compliance if you use it correctly in accordance with GIPS. Full GIPS compliance is composed of many components of which calculation methodology is only one. See our Resources page for links to learn more about GIPS and the CFA Institute.

Q  What makes Easy ROR Pro better than other performance calculators?  Easy ROR Pro provides all Time-Weighted calculation methods required by GIPS (not just one) and many others which are recommended by GIPS. It uses daily-weighted methods, not outdated mid-point methods, and meets the new GIPS requirements effective Jan 1, 2010. Easy ROR Pro only requires portfolio balances, deposits and withdrawals to make these vital calculations; it does not require you to enter any information regarding internal portfolio activity such as trades, transfers, dividends, etc.

Q  What is the cost for Easy ROR Pro?  There is only a one-time fee to purchase a software license. Minor updates can be downloaded from our website for free until the next version is released. After that, you can optionally upgrade to the latest version for an upgrade fee at your discretion at any time in the future. We release new versions approximately once a year. Your license includes free email and telephone technical support (see our terms). You must purchase a separate license for each installation if you will have multiple users.

Q  Is there a discount for multiple licenses?  Yes. You get 20% off each additional copy purchased within the same order.

Q  Can Easy ROR Pro be networked on a server?  You can direct multiple instances of Easy ROR Pro to use a single data store which can reside on a separate machine, but only one instance can access the same data file at a time (multiple users can access different data files simultaneously). You will need to purchase a separate license for each Easy ROR Pro installation.

Q  Can Easy ROR Pro import my data?  Easy ROR Pro can import data from a csv (comma-delimited) file in a specified format. If you can export your data to an ASCII file, you can easily convert it to Easy ROR Pro's format using Excel or a similar spreadsheet program.

Q  How does the free trial work?  You can download or install Easy ROR Pro directly from our Downloads page. It will be fully functional for 10 days, during which you can explore it completely using your own data. After 10 days, the program will cease to run, but it and all of your data will remain installed on your machine. If you wish to continue using it, you place a purchase order on our website and we will send you an activation code which will re-activate the program installed on your machine (or the latest version if you re-download it) and allow you to continue using your data. You have nothing to lose!
